Football welcomes 20 midyear signups - Ole Miss Athletics (2023)

OXFORD, miss—With only months to go until spring football, the Ole Miss football program has added a new infusion of talent to the roster and welcomed 20 mid-year enrollees to campus.

The list of new Rebels joining the team for spring training includes 13 transfers from Division I, which On3 currently ranks as Class No. 3 in team transfer rankings. Ole Miss claimed four of the top 50 transfers available, according to On3.

Recent D1 transmissions includeVictor Curne(OL), Caden Davis (K), Joshua Harris (DT), Tre Harris (WR), Walker Howard (QB), Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste (LB), Chris Marshall (WR), Quincy McGee (OL), Monty Montgomery (LB), Caden Prieskorn (TE), Spencer Sanders (QB), John Saunders Jr (CB) y Zamari Walton (CB).

Five signatories in December:AJ Braun(S),jayvontay conner(THE),cayden lee(WR),braxton-myers(CC),sanders(OL) along with walk-onsJoshua and(WR) and Antione Johnson (LB) round out the first innings for Ole Miss.

Sanders, a transfer quarterback from Oklahoma State, is ranked a four-star transfer and No. 19 overall in the nation, according to On3. Sanders appeared in 43 career games for the Cowboys and was named the 2019 Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year and 2021 First-Team All-Big 12. He threw for 9,553 yards, rushed for 1,956 yards and had 85 total touchdowns during his four-year career at Stillwater. Sanders went 31-12 as a starter, which included a 12-2 season in 2021.

Montgomery, transferred from Louisville, has had a career season with the Cardinals in which he totaled 70 tackles, including 11 losses and six sacks. He tied for the team lead with four forced fumbles and also had five quarterback hats and two interceptions. In his four-year career with Louisville, Montgomery amassed 160 tackles and 15 sacks in 39 career games.

Another top 50 On3 signing, Marshall comes to Oxford after appearing as a true freshman in six games for Texas A&M. A native of Missouri City, Texas, he had 11 receptions for 108 yards in his freshman college season. A four-star recruit from Fort Bend Marshall High School, Marshall didn't play football until his junior season with the Buffalos. As a senior, he was a 2022 Under Armor All-American, rushing for 466 yards and 11 touchdowns in just seven games.

Ranked as the No. 35 transfer by On3, Tre Harris recently received first-team All-Conference USA honors after his outstanding 2022 campaign for Louisiana Tech. Harris led Louisiana Tech with 935 yards and hauled in 65 receptions and 10 touchdowns. . Harris' 10 receiving touchdowns ranked second among all C-USA players and 11th nationally. He tallied three 100-yard receptions for the Bulldogs last season, including a 157-yard game against Middle Tennessee.

Howard, a quarterback transfer from LSU, is Ole Miss' highest-rated transfer, according to 247Sports, ranking 35th. Howard appeared in two contests for the Tigers in 2022 as a true freshman. The Lafayette, Louisiana native was one of the nation's top quarterback prospects in the class of 2022. Howard was ranked the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in the nation by ESPN and was listed No. 5 by 247 Sports. He was ranked No. 27 in the nation by ESPN and No. 34 by 247Sports. The Elite 11 competitor and 2020 Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year helped lead St. Thomas More to back-to-back state titles as runners-up and juniors.

Curne, a four-year letter-winner from Washington, appeared in 26 total games for the Huskies and earned honorable mention All-Pac-12 honors in 2020 and 2021. The 6-foot-4, 320-pound Curne finished his career in Washington after playing 1,090 offensive snaps with a well-above-average Pro Football Focus grade of 72.0, primarily at right tackle for the Huskies.

Davis appeared in 33 career games over three seasons at Texas A&M. As of 2020, he was the Aggies' primary kickoff specialist. 85 percent of Davis' career kickoffs (155 of 183) went to touchbacks.

Joshua Harris appeared on the defensive line in 31 career games for North Carolina State. The Roxboro, NC native recorded 11 total tackles last year, including three tackles for losses. Harris was a four-star contender coming out of high school. According to Rivals, he was the 143rd pick nationally and the 251st pick out of 247Sports.

Jean-Baptiste joins the Rebels after enjoying back-to-back productive seasons, serving as captain and starting linebacker for UCF's defense. Jean-Baptiste is leaving UCF after posting his second straight 50-tackle season with the Knights, and the Florida City, Florida native is exiting the program with 152 tackles, 14 TFLs, eight pass breakups, two sacks and two Forced Fumbling over his four-year career.

McGee, a 6-foot-4, 320-pound interior offensive lineman, joins Ole Miss after spending two years as the starting lineman for the UAB Blazers. A native of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, after a year of fighting his way through the trenches, he returns to his home state to earn second-team All-Conference USA honors for his efforts as a right back. McGee started 12 of UAB's 13 games in 2022 and helped pave the way for the Blazers to average 235.3 yards per game, a stat that ranked eighth nationally.

Memphis tight end Prieskorn adds another threat to Ole Miss's offense. In three years with the Tigers, Prieskorn cemented himself as one of the top passing threats in the AAC after earning numerous accolades, including being voted a 2022 First Team All-AAC by PFF and Phil Steele. After a junior season that finished with Prieskorn with 48 receptions for 602 yards and seven passing touchdowns, the Lake Orion, Michigan native clinched a spot as a semifinalist for the John Mackey Award.

Saunders Jr. joins Rebel Secondary from Miami, Ohio. The former Redhawk cornerback brings several years of eligibility and experience to the Ole Miss roster. The High Point, North Carolina native totaled 52 tackles, 10 pass breakups and two interceptions on his way to a third-team All-MAC defensive spot. Saunders will look to display the ball skills that helped him rack up his five career interceptions and 15 total pass breakups while he was in Ohio.

Walton, a former Georgia Tech defender, completes the list of rebel signings. He started for the Yellow Jackets in 37 of his 48 career appearances and brings a veteran presence to the Ole Miss defense, having earned five letters at Georgia Tech. A native of Melbourne, Fla., the five-year stint in Atlanta gave him he brought in a career total of 125 tackles, as well as three interceptions and 20 pass breakups.
